What to Do In Guerneville
The serene, majestic beauty of this Grove is a living reminder of the magnificent primeval redwood forest that covered much of this area before logging operations began during the 19th century. Armstrong Redwoods preserves stately and magnificent Sequoia sempervirens, commonly known as the coast redwood. These trees stand together as a testament to the wonders of the natural world. The grove offers solace from the hustle and bustle of daily life, offering the onlooker great inspiration and a place for quiet reflection.
What better way to enjoy an area than to sample the massage therapists? Patte combines the best of both the tropical islands of Hawaii and the world famous Esalen retreat center in Big Sur into her treatments. Located right here in Guerneville, Patte can come to your resort or vacation home. Call 707.869.2052 for an appointment.
Located in the heart of Guerneville, Johnson’s Beach on the Russian River is a favorite. You can rent a boat and paddle in the river and then rent an umbrella and beach chair to restore yourself on the sand. Remember to bring your driver’s license and cash because they do not take credit cards for rentals.
On your way down to the river for a day of kayaking, stop at Big Bottom Market for a gourmet boxed lunch and a bottle of wine. While you are there you can also pick up some artisanal gifts to bring home from your trip to the Russian River. Our favorite sandwich is the Parson Jones. BBM is also open for breakfast.
For special diets or if you are craving some great healthy local food stop by Guerneville’s health food store. They have prepared food as well for a healthy picnic. Check out their selection of Sonoma County cheeses!
After a day at the beach, take a stroll down Main Street to find Sonoma Nesting Company. There you will find beautiful handpainted repurposed furniture. SNC is not just furniture, you can find an eclectic array of fine furnishings for your home including etched glass and wall art. Definitely a place to inspire you for your next redecorating project!
Speaking of Sonoma Nesting Company, if you happen to be in Guerneville on a Thursday night, SNC hosts the fabulous Russian River Farmer’s Market during the summer from 3-7. Find local farmers selling their vegetables and meat, fishermen selling their catch, bakers selling their bread and chefs selling their homemade goodies plus much, much more.
This might be a stretch but if it is your lucky day you will have happened upon a Thursday in the summer where live music is being played next to the Farmer’s Market in the Guerneville town square. The Russian River area is known for its love of music with many music festivals happening on the beach or in the redwoods. Come on down with your chair or picnic basket, the concert is free! Sadly, no glass bottles, pets or alcohol are allowed.
